Pirates! The Penzance Musical is a jazzy adaptation of the 1880s Gilbert and Sullivan Operetta The Pirates of Penzance. Now set in New Orleans and given an updated accompaniment the G&S score (which includes songs like “I Am a Very Model of a Modern Major General” and “With Catlike Tread”–better known for “Hail, Hail the Gangs All Here”), this adaptation keeps the goofy silly fun of the Gilbert and Sullivan comedies while playing fast and loose with modern audience expectations. Even if you are unfamiliar with the original, you are guaranteed to leave laughing and feeling good with this show that is for the whole family.
